Greenwich and Fairfield County in the southwestern region of Connecticut offers business a dynamic workforce that is one of the most productive, advanced in skill level and best educated in the nation.

In productivity alone, the output per worker in Connecticut is almost 30 percent higher than the national average. The Connecticut figure for manufacturing productivity is also well above the U.S. average.

Greenwich’s number of employed - 35,278 - meanwhile represents more than half of the population of 61,000 and the unemployment rate of 2.4 percent if roughly half the national average.

About a third of the employed pool - or 11,359 workers - live in Greenwich. Another 5,600 commute from Stamford, 2,368 from Norwalk and 1,622 from Rye, NY. Others come from Bridgeport, Fairfield, Danbury, Manhattan and New Rochelle, NY and Darien, each community contributing less than 1,000.

From Greenwich, 5,239 commute to Manhattan and 3,678 to Stamford.

At least 56 percent of the population is classified as management or professional or engaged in a related occupation, 26.4 percent in sales or office activity and nearly 10 percent in the service area.

The category breaks down further into 21.5 per cent in finance, insurance, real estate or rental-leasing, 17.9 percent in professional, scientific and management fields and 14. percent in education, health and social services.

A list of the fastest-growing occupations in the state published by the Connecticut Labor Department meanwhile shows the top five as personal financial advisors, personal and home care aides, network systems and date analysts, radiation therapists and physician assistants.
