Connecticut Light and Power a.k.a. Northeast Utilities (nu.com) is the electricity distributor for commercial, industrial and residential consumers in the Greenwich-Stamford area. But under deregulation and restructuring introduced in 2000 to promote competition and lower costs, the other elements in the supply chain—suppliers and aggregators--are furnished by other enterprises (see below). All billing is through CL&P. Connecticut’s Department of Public Utility Control regulates the licensing and standards.

(CL& P Rates)

CL&P offers industrial and commercial accounts a number of energy cost-saving programs. They include incentives of up to 50 percent and 100 percent of the incremental cost for new installations, construction and upgrades, interest-free financing for small business for certain types of lighting and refrigeration and incentives for reducing the energy loads during peak periods.

For business Internet access, high-speed service is available from Optimum Business (optimum.com), a division of Norwalk-based Cablevision of Connecticut, Verizon Business (version.com) and Covad Business (covad.com).

The options extend from broadband - a transmission technique that carries multiple channels, to digital subscriber lines and fiber optic technology to Web hosting and satellite service.

Telephone services are provided by AT & T and Verizon Business.
