Greenwich, Connecticut real estate and the Mortimer family name have been synonymous for more than 100 years. Transcending four generations, the Mortimer success in Greenwich real estate business continues. Edward S. Mortimer, sales executive with Sotheby’s International Realty and fourth generation of the family credits much of his distinct market knowledge and love for the Greenwich community to that which he acquired from his ancestors. Walter Ferris Mortimer -The First Generation-Mid-1800s

Walter Ferris Mortimer, seen on his Twin Pine delivery Wagon at the turn-of-the-century (1900). He later expanded his interests into real estate.
Walter Ferris Mortimer was the first to demonstrate the family instinct for real estate. At the time when the Old Greenwich summer resident market was booming Walter recognized the distinct appeal of the Greenwich area and developed his local daily farm land, the Twin Pines Dairy, into a successful business enterprise to serve the needs of the community. He later continued established the foundation of the Mortimer real estate business with his son Harry Scofield Mortimer joining his business.


Harry Scofield Mortimer and Helen Murray Mortimer- The Second Generation-1930s

Harry Scofield Mortimer and Helen Murray Mortimer -- Harry Scofield Mortimer Real Estate - 1938. Helen the driving force behind the business was featured in the 1959 edition of Who's Who in the East.
Harry Scofield Mortimer and his wife Helen Murray of Portchester, New York settled in Old Greenwich and demonstrated a penchant for real estate opening Harry Scofield Mortimer Real Estate in 1938. Growing into to a larger business enterprise Helen created Nickerson * Moore * Mortimer Real Estate in 1945. With marked achievements, Helen received national notoriety in 1959 by being featured in Who’s Who in the East. Harry and Helen’s son, Murray Allin Mortimer, joined the business in the ear 1960s.


Murray Allin Mortimer -The Third Generation-1960s

Murray Allin Mortimer, the third generation developed an enterprising real estate sales, leasing, and development firms. He was responsible for the noteworthy Windrose Way-Mead Point development in 1972.
Murray Allin Mortimer, the eldest child of Harry Scofield Mortimer and Helen Murray Mortimer, graduated college with a degree in agriculture. In the early 1960s he entered the Greenwich real estate business and a few years later formed Mortimer and Mortimer Inc. Real Estate. In the late 1970s he expanded his firm’s business activity to include land development and residential construction. One of his many contributions to the community was the development of the Windrose Way neighborhood in the Mead Point gated community in the 1970s and the development of selected neighborhood projects on Indian Harbor Drive, Old Church Road, and Brookridge Drive in the late 1970s and early 1980s (among others). In the 1980s his son Edward joined him in business.


Edward Scott Mortimer- Fourth Generation-1980s

Edward Scott Mortimer, pictured here making a presentation to Groupe Moulet Immobilier, a French Development firm and the French Embassy Trade Office shortly after taking over Mortimer and Mortimer Inc. real Estate in 1986.
Edward Scott Mortimer, after receiving his B.S. in Business Management, he entered the real estate business as vice president and project manager of Greenmont Construction producing homes of great quality for the luxury home market. Between the time that he transitioned from development to sales he continued his education at New York University’s Real Estate Institute. After nearly a decade of developing his sales force he recognized a sound business opportunity and merged Mortimer and Mortimer Inc. Real Estate with William Pitt Real Estate in 1995.
